Hike Point Buchon Trail

Went with a group of friends from the CalCoast Singles. On Saturday, September 13 we hiked around Point Buchon Trail.

Hikers have access to three miles of coastline north of Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. Pacific Gas and Electric Co., which owns the plant and surrounding property, opened the entire length of the Point Buchon Trail to the public June 28.

The trail goes from the southern boundary of MontaƱa de Oro State Park to Crowbar Canyon, a point just north of Diablo Canyon Power Plant. The whole trail is about 3.8 miles in and out.

(1) Short way --Go to the Coon Creek Beach - Point Buchon Lookout- then take the shortcut and come back to the trail entrance.

(2) Longer way --Go to the Coon Creek Beach - Point Buchon Lookout - Disney Point Lookout - last Lookout and turn back.

The trail winds through part of a security buffer zone around the nuclear power plant. As such, the creation of the trail is the first time the public has had access to this secluded part of the coastline in years.

The trail goes south from the loop trail and generally follows the coastline. At several points, it moves inland to avoid ecologically sensitive areas and to give hikers more panoramic views of the coastline.

Central Coast Singles - 4th of July BBQ & Fireworks

I had a great time with my singles group for the 4th of July holiday. I was so busy chatting I didn't take many photos. But I did manage a few, so I created a minute and half video of us. As usual I forgot to get photos of myself.

We had a meet and greet then a nice BBQ. Thanks to Eva for hosting in her home, for Henry for doing the grilling duties and for Gerald for putting it all together. After the BBQ we headed over to view the Santa Maria fireworks display. We literally sat under the fireworks, we did have some of the burnt pieces fall on us. Nothing dangerous, but it was amusing. Also, a few members purchased fireworks to shoot off, didn't realize we had a few pyromanics in the group, just kidding. Then we went back to sing a bit of karaoke and dance some. Great time had by all.

Visit to the Park

I wanted to make a really cool birthday invitation for my granddaughter Jordan's 4th birthday, so I took her to the park and brought three of her princess outfits. I wanted to take pictures and put them on the birthday invitation. Here is the completed birthday invitation.

Hiking around Lopez Lake

Had a great time hiking with Jordan around Lopez Lake. We watched the boaters and the windsurfers. Found a few trails to hike on. Overall we had a great day, weather was nice, some wind, but perfect for hiking.

Tell Me One of Your Favorite Spots (cont'd)

Since I was new, I had no idea what the words: Pirate Cove meant. Most locals would giggle if you said it. As it turns out its a clothing optional beach. Yep that's right, its a nudist beach. You can't tell very well by this photo, but trust me there are little specks of people on the beach. You have to hike down the mountain to get there, believe me it no easy feat. There is a split in the trail, one way to the beach. One way to the cave. Actually the cave is a natural rock formation, it is pretty cool to check out. And you get a great view of the ocean. Also it is a long way down if you go to close to the edge. For the avid rock climber, you can also get on top of the rock formation have a full panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. The tough part is climbing back down to the trail. I was not that adventurous.

Tell Me One of Your Favorite Spots

Tell Me One of Your Favorite Places:
Cave Landing and Pirate Cove

I moved to the central coast about 2 years ago. When I would meet someone new I would ask, tell me one of your favorite places here on the central coast. Often they would take me there. This was my first venture to such a place, I visited here June of 2007. As it turned it, it was a big surprise for several reasons. One it takes bit to get there. You take the Avila Beach Road exit, drive about 2 miles turn on to Cave Landing Road. Then you go up a side of mountain. Find a parking lot. Begin the trek down the side of the mountain. My friend failed to mention a few important details. First he took me to the cave, the natural rock formation. Then next Pirate's Cove, continued on next post.

Visit from my son, Steven

The top photo is me and my son taken at Pismo Beach, Easter weekend of 2008.

The bottom photo is my daughter, Christie and on my son, Steven.
They are two of my favorite people in the whole wide world!

I was very happy this past March, my son, Steven came to visit me in Pismo. I had not seen him for a while and I was happy he was able to visit for 4 days. My son brought his wonderful girlfriend Jennifer, I took them all over the area. We visited the Pismo Beach pier, Downtown San Luis Obispo, and other hotspots around the area. I took them out for a nice steak dinner at AJ Spurs in Arroyo Grande. They really liked the area, they may try and figure out a way to live here, I am all for that!

Joining the Gym

Well...I finally did it, I joined the gym. Bought a full year's membership, now I have to go right? I have not been feeling well and I really didn't like the number that kept popping up on the bathroom scale. I decided it was time to start doing something about it. I bought some comfy clothes, got out my favorite Nike sports shoes, barely used, and headed down to the gym. For now, I am walking 20 minutes on the treadmill at moderate speed. I am also doing some weight training for my arms and legs.
