Symbol - Good Luck - Hang Ten

When I was younger, I always thought of the beach and living at the beach like the scenes depicted in the "Gidget" movies. Everyone was young, tanned, drove a VW Van and had a surfboard on top.

In May of 2006, I had decided to move with Christie and Mike to Pismo Beach, it was a bright sunny day, and we loaded up the U-Haul the night before and headed out the the next morning about 9:00am. I followed Mike in my car and he was driving the U-Haul, from Porterville to Pismo, but around 12:30pm I was getting hungry and decided to pull off at an In & Out Burger in Atascadero. I knew that Atascadero was only 20 minutes from the beach house we had rented, so I wasn't worried about catching up with them. As I pulled into the parking lot of the burger place, I noticed 3 VW vans and one had a surfboard on top.

I grabbed my camera and took the photo of the three VW Vans. I took it as a symbol of good luck and that I had made the right decision. I think all along I thought I had made the right decision, but somehow seeing the 3 vans in the parking lot made me realize it completely. I smiled as I took the photo and I was so happy to be moving to the coast on that bright sunny day in May of 2006.

Fast forward four years, I am out looking for a beach house for me and Steven to rent, now its December 2010, still loving the beach life, but need to make a change. I have been roommates with Christie and Mike for over four years and it is starting to feel a little cramped, we seem to get into each others way more these days, so I started to look around for another place. I took a look at the cute beach house on Teddy Bear Lane and really liked it, the landlord said he would call me Monday and let me know, he had several others people taking a look at it too.

I decide to go to Ross and return a blouse I had bought for the company Christmas party but decided not to wear. As I was walking through the store I saw this VW sitting on the table along with other vintage metal cars and I just smiled. Turned it over and the price tag read $13.99 so I picked it up, took to the check out counter, purchased it, and smiled all the way to the car. I think it might be another sign of good luck. I hope so!

Five Girlfriends Every Woman Needs

The Old Friend: The person who convinced you that you looked beautiful, even with braces, on prom night — and the one you still yap with on the phone for hours.

The Vault: The friend in whom you confide your online dating disasters and the exact number of unpaid parking tickets in your glove compartment.

The Navigator: The one who actually remembers to bring a map when you're heading off on a trip together.

The Personal Coach: Your one-woman cheerleading squad who never attempts to look better in a short skirt and pom-poms than you do.

The Party Pal: Always makes you feel as if you were the guest of honor. Her enthusiasm is unconditional. When we're determined to be depressed, she shows up at our door, ordering us to ditch our big bag of M&M's (and our bathrobe) for a night of embarrassing karaoke.

I think at times I can be the Navigator, and sometimes the Vault, I don't repeat gossip. I have a few long time friends, and they know who they are, and they like me as their Old Friend. And sure I can be the Personal Coach, but rarely do I give advice, now I am 51 and realize most people don't want or need advice. But mostly I am good at the being the "Party Pal" nothing wrong with having a little fun.

Lazy Sunday Day at the Coast

Beautiful Sunday morning at the coast. I worked six days this week, so I have decided to take a break today and do some fun stuff on the computer. I have video I am going to edit and some scrap pages I am going to work on. I will post my results later. I am also going to work on this blog page and see how it goes.

Hike Point Buchon Trail

Went with a group of friends from the CalCoast Singles. On Saturday, September 13 we hiked around Point Buchon Trail.

Hikers have access to three miles of coastline north of Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. Pacific Gas and Electric Co., which owns the plant and surrounding property, opened the entire length of the Point Buchon Trail to the public June 28.

The trail goes from the southern boundary of Montaña de Oro State Park to Crowbar Canyon, a point just north of Diablo Canyon Power Plant. The whole trail is about 3.8 miles in and out.

(1) Short way --Go to the Coon Creek Beach - Point Buchon Lookout- then take the shortcut and come back to the trail entrance.

(2) Longer way --Go to the Coon Creek Beach - Point Buchon Lookout - Disney Point Lookout - last Lookout and turn back.

The trail winds through part of a security buffer zone around the nuclear power plant. As such, the creation of the trail is the first time the public has had access to this secluded part of the coastline in years.

The trail goes south from the loop trail and generally follows the coastline. At several points, it moves inland to avoid ecologically sensitive areas and to give hikers more panoramic views of the coastline.
